City of San Gabriel: The city of San Gabriel is home to the Mission San Gabriel - founded in 1771, only two years after the discovery of the San Gabriel Valley. It was the fourth mission built in a chain of twenty one by Father Junipero Serra. The San Gabriel Mission Church was built of cut stone, brick and mortar and is the oldest structure of its kind south of Monterey. The city itself is rich in cultural history/diversity, has renowned blue ribbon schools and neighborhoods that are considered 'hidden gems.'
